Trail Tierra de Ibias

Trail Tierra de Ibias is a mountain race through the heart of the Ibias municipality, in the far southwest of Asturias. The III edition (2026) offers three distances starting from San Antolín de Ibias: a half marathon of 21.9 km, a speed trail of 12.7 km and a hikers march of 8.5 km.

The Course

The routes cross Roman bridges, riverside trails among oak trees, vineyards of native grape varieties and summits with panoramic views of the southwestern Asturian mountains. Ibias is one of the most remote and best-preserved municipalities in Asturias, a true sanctuary of wild nature.

The half marathon accumulates 1,300 meters of elevation gain over 21.9 km, combining technical high-mountain sections with forest and riverside trails. The 12.7 km speed trail (680m D+) offers a more accessible version of the same landscape. The hikers route (8.5 km, 300m D+) provides a course suitable for all levels.

Ibias, Nature in Its Purest Form

The municipality of Ibias is part of the Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña and Ibias Natural Park, home to brown bears, capercaillies and wolves. Its forests of oak, chestnut and birch cover the slopes of mountains exceeding 1,500 meters in altitude.

The area is also a land of mountain vineyards, with a winemaking tradition dating back to Roman times. Runners pass through these vineyards during the race — a unique landscape in the Iberian trail running scene. Use our gear checklist to prepare for Asturian mountain conditions.

Village Atmosphere

Trail Tierra de Ibias is a race with a village soul. After finishing, the organization prepares a community meal at the Aurelio Menéndez school with appetizers, paella and desserts made with local honey and cheese. A perfect way to close a mountain morning in one of the most authentic corners of Asturias.
