Aloñako Igoera
Aloñako Igoera is a mountain race starting from Oñati (Gipuzkoa) through the mountains of the Basque Country interior. With its motto Hell awaits you!, the 21st edition in 2026 confirms its reputation as one of the most demanding races in the Basque Country.
The course
22.6 kilometres with 1,868 metres of elevation gain. The km-to-elevation ratio is brutal: an average of over 80 metres of climbing per kilometre. The terrain is mostly technical with just 3 km of asphalt — the rest is mountain trails, grass and rock.
The start is at Plaza de los Fueros in Oñati at 9:30 in the morning. Runners face a course with 6 aid stations that takes them through the peaks surrounding the historic town of Oñati.
Oñati, a noble town
Oñati is a gem of inland Gipuzkoa. The Sancti Spiritus University (the first university in the Basque Country), the Arantzazu Sanctuary carved into rock, and a history stretching back centuries. The town combines cultural heritage with a first-class natural environment at the gates of Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park.
