Isasa Trail Xtrem

The Isasa Trail Xtrem was born from the passion of a group of runners for the trails around Arnedo, La Rioja’s shoe-making capital and home of the Atom brand. In its third edition, this race has established itself as a key event in the Riojan trail calendar.

The course

From the center of Arnedo, all three distances head into the surrounding mountains. The routes reveal spectacular and lesser-known paths, combining ravines, ridgelines, and trails winding through vineyards and Mediterranean scrubland.

  • Marathon (46K) — 2,600m elevation gain, the flagship event. Start at 8:00 AM. Cutoff points at Préjano (10:30), Turruncún (13:15), Valdeherreros (14:00), and finish (16:30).
  • Half Marathon (23K) — 1,000m elevation gain, a demanding challenge with the best race profile. Start at 9:00 AM. No cutoff times.
  • Short Race (16K) — 350m elevation gain, the gateway to trail running. Start at 9:15 AM. No cutoff times.

A Nordic Walking event (16K) also takes place on the same course as the Short Race.

Terrain and difficulty

The terrain is varied: mountain trails, forest tracks, ravines, and some stretches through vineyards. The Marathon includes the most technical sections with steep climbs and descents. The 16K Short Race is ideal for newcomers to trail, with a gentle and well-marked profile. Review our gear checklist to make sure you have everything you need for race day.

March weather in Arnedo

March in La Rioja marks the transition from winter to spring. Temperatures range from 5 to 15°C, with cool mornings and pleasant middays. Wind can blow on the ridgelines, and occasional rain showers are possible. A light rain jacket is a recommended companion.

Arnedo and La Rioja

Arnedo is Spain’s shoe-making capital, with a centuries-old footwear industry and home to brands like Atom. Beyond industry, the city offers historical heritage and Riojan gastronomy. La Rioja is a perfect destination to combine trail running with wine tourism: wineries, charming villages, and world-class cuisine.
