Canfranc-Canfranc: the wildest Pyrenees
Canfranc-Canfranc is one of the most iconic trail running races in the Aragonese Pyrenees. Starting and finishing at Canfranc-Estación — at the foot of the majestic International Station — it offers six distances traversing the most spectacular peaks and valleys of the central Pyrenees.
In 2025, Canfranc hosted the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships (WMTRC), cementing this corner of the Aragonese Pyrenees as a world-class venue for high-mountain trail running.
The Ultra 100K: 8,848 meters of elevation gain
The flagship event is the Ultra 100K, considered one of the ultras with the highest elevation-to-distance ratio in all of Europe. Its 8,848 meters of elevation gain over 100 kilometres lives up to its motto: “The longest 100 km in the world”.
The circular course from Canfranc-Estación ascends over 12 peaks, including:
- Pico Tortiellas — One of the first major climbs
- Peña Collarada (2,886m) — The giant of the Aragón Valley
- La Moleta (2,572m) — Iconic peak visible from Canfranc
- Vértice de Anayet — Lunar landscape with glacial mountain lakes
- Pico Aspe (2,645m) — The last major climb at km 58 of the 70K
Over 70% of the course runs above 2,000 meters altitude, making cold management, altitude, and weather decisive factors. Use our time estimator to predict your finish time based on the extreme elevation profile.
Ultra 70K and Marathon 45K
The Ultra 70K shares the spectacular nature of the 100K with 6,100m D+ and a 26-hour time limit. It begins with a brutal 1,500-meter climb in the first 6 kilometres to La Moleta peak.
The Marathon 45K offers 3,700m D+ with four major climbs: an alpine, technical mountain marathon traversing the Izas Valley, Larraca, Astún, Candanchú, and the base of Pico Aspe.
Long Distance 26K, Classic 16K, and Uphill 6K
The Long Distance 26K was created in 2023 as an intermediate distance: 1,700m D+ passing through Ibón de Ip and La Moleta. The Classic 16K is the race’s historic event, run in full self-sufficiency mode, and the Uphill 6K is an explosive vertical kilometre that in 2026 will adopt the World Championships course.
Canfranc-Estación: history meets mountains
The start and finish next to the Canfranc International Station — the second largest train station in Europe, recently restored — provide an incomparable setting. The Aragón Valley offers direct access to the most alpine peaks of the central Pyrenees, with landscapes of glacial mountain lakes, rocky ridges, and black pine forests.
