CxM Alfarnat Trail

The CxM Alfarnat Trail is a trail running race through the mountain paths of the inland Axarquía region of Málaga, starting and finishing in Alfarnate, one of the highest villages in Málaga province. In 2026 it celebrates its second edition.

Alfarnate, at nearly 900 meters altitude, is the gateway to a mid-mountain landscape where cherry orchards, olive groves, and historic trails intertwine with views of the Sierra de Alhama and the Axarquía peaks.

The Course

The Alfarnat Trail offers two distances through the mountain trails around Alfarnate:

  • Trail 23K — 1,450m D+. A demanding route through the summits and ravines of the inland Axarquía
  • Trail 14K — A more accessible distance for those new to mountain trail running

The terrain combines mountain paths, rural tracks, and sections with panoramic views of inland Málaga. The elevation gain on the 23K makes it a serious challenge despite the contained distance.

Alfarnate and the Inland Axarquía

Alfarnate is known as the coldest village in Málaga, a fact that contrasts with the province’s usual coastal image. Its Venta de Alfarnate, considered the oldest inn in Andalusia, was a stop for travelers and bandits on the road between Málaga and Granada.

The inland Axarquía offers a very different landscape from the coast: mountains, white villages perched on hillsides, and a living agricultural tradition. Take the opportunity to discover this lesser-known side of Málaga.
