Calamorro Skyrace

The Calamorro Skyrace is a classic skyrunning race through the coastal mountains of Benalmadena (Malaga), starting and finishing at Recinto Ferial Los Nadales. In 2026 it celebrates its seventeenth edition, organized by Club Alpino Benalmadena.

Monte Calamorro (771m) is the highest peak of the Sierra de Mijas on its coastal side. From its summit, views span the entire Costa del Sol, the Mediterranean, and on clear days, the African coast.

The course

The Calamorro Skyrace offers two distances:

  • Skyrace 30K — 2,200m D+. A demanding skyrunning race with explosive climbs, technical ridges, and vertiginous descents through the coastal mountains. Start at 17:00 (women) and 17:30 (men).
  • CxM Calamorro 12.5K — 689m D+. A more accessible distance with Open, Junior, and Youth categories. Start at 18:00.

The terrain is typical skyrace: technical Mediterranean mountain trails with limestone rock, steep gradient sections, and exposed ridges. The late afternoon start adds the appeal of running into sunset over the Mediterranean, though it requires carrying a headlamp for the final sections.

Benalmadena and Monte Calamorro

Benalmadena comprises three distinct areas: the pueblo (historic hillside village), the costa (tourist beachfront), and Arroyo de la Miel (residential). Monte Calamorro is accessible by tourist cable car, but the Skyrace conquers it via the sierra’s most demanding trails.

The Sierra de Mijas, which frames the race, is a protected natural area of limestone rock with rich Mediterranean biodiversity. The course offers panoramic views of the Malaga coastline, from Torremolinos to Fuengirola.
