V Trail Nieva de Cameros

The V Trail Nieva de Cameros runs through the trails of Camero Nuevo in La Rioja, starting and finishing in the village square. The 5th edition (2026) offers three trail distances and a hiking walk, all through a landscape of sierras, grasslands, and the Iregua river valley.

The course

From the Nieva de Cameros village square, all three distances head into the surrounding mountains. The terrain combines mountain trails, forest tracks, and stretches through grasslands and scrubland.

  • Marathon (47K) — 2,350m elevation gain, the flagship event. Start at 8:00 AM. Cutoff at 5:00 PM.
  • Half (23K) — 1,200m elevation gain, a demanding route through the best of the sierra. Start at 9:30 AM.
  • Short (13.5K) — 550m elevation gain, ideal for newcomers to mountain trail running.

A Hiking Walk (13.5 km) also takes place on the short course route.

Nieva de Cameros and the Iregua Valley

Nieva de Cameros is a small village perched on a south-facing slope in the heart of the Cameros region. The village preserves the ruins of a medieval castle offering panoramic views of the valley. The Iregua river runs through the area, creating a natural corridor between Logroño and the southern sierras of La Rioja.

The race is part of the La Rioja Mountain Races Chiruca Experience circuit, which groups the region’s main mountain races. It is the first scoring race of the spring cup.

May weather in the Cameros

May is one of the best months for trail running in La Rioja. Temperatures range from 8 to 20°C, with cool mornings and pleasant middays. However, the Cameros can surprise you with spring rain showers or wind at higher elevations. A light rain jacket in your pack is always a good idea.
