Penyagolosa Trails 2026
Recommended sun protection
In April, UV radiation in the Mediterranean mountains is moderate to high, especially above 1,000m. The course from sea level to the 1,813m Penyagolosa summit exposes runners for many hours.
Topical sun protection products specific to trail running: SPF 50+ sport sunscreen resistant to water and sweat, SPF lip balm and after-sun for recovery. At altitude, UV radiation increases by 10-12% per 1,000 metres, making sun protection not an extra but mandatory gear.
Based on historical data from the last 10 years
☀️ 11 hours of sunshine expected. Reapply SPF 50+ every 2 hours.
⛰️ At the race altitude, UV radiation is ~62% stronger than at sea level.
