Subbética Trail

The Subbética Trail is a trail running race through the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, in the heart of Córdoba province. Organized by Subbética Outdoor with the collaboration of the municipalities of Zuheros, Doña Mencía and Luque, the race reaches its ninth edition in 2026.

The start is at Plaza de la Paz in Zuheros, one of Spain’s most beautiful villages, nestled beneath the imposing Cueva de los Murciélagos (Bat Cave) and the medieval castle overlooking the valley.

The course

The Subbética Trail runs through landscapes of great natural and cultural value:

  • Vía Verde del aceite — Opening section along the old railway line, flat and accessible
  • Sierras Subbéticas — Limestone trails through mid-mountain terrain with views of the Córdoba olive groves
  • Three villages connected — Zuheros, Doña Mencía and Luque linked by historic paths

The terrain is not especially technical, making it an ideal race for experienced runners and those starting out in mid-distance trail running alike.

Distances and prices

  • Trail 29K — 1,400m elevation gain, up to 6 hours. €34.
  • Trail 18K — Shorter route through the best of the Subbética. €30.

Registration is through RockTheSport and closes on March 15, 2026. Bib collection is on race morning at Plaza de la Paz, up to 30 minutes before the start.

Zuheros and the Córdoba Subbética

Zuheros is much more than a start line. This whitewashed village clinging to the rock is home to the Cueva de los Murciélagos, one of the most important Neolithic sites in Andalusia, and a historic center that deserves a leisurely stroll.

The Subbética region is olive oil country with its own Denomination of Origin, baroque villages like Priego de Córdoba and hearty local cuisine. Take the opportunity to discover one of the least known and most authentic areas of Andalusia.
